“Everything Changes But You..”

Happy Memories

“Everything changes but you“.
A song that you’d sing along with me.
If only we’d have known,
That’s exactly how life would be.

Seven years has felt so quick.
Yet it’s almost your whole lifetime away.
So much new seems to have happened,
Yet it feels like you were here yesterday.

So if I were to tell our seven big bits of news.
It would start with university plans, job changes and large-scale DIY,
And Oli learning to drive
And giving new things a try.

And I’d tell of our approach,
Of seizing each and every day.
Filling it with giving everything a go,
In a “doing it for two” sort of way.

We continue fundraising and raising awareness,
And our chatter about you is incessant.
We imagine who you’d be now,
Firmly an adolescent.

I only wish it was more than imagining.
That we could see if it were true.
But what we do know for certain,
Is how much we miss and love you.

A few verses don’t do it justice,
And it’s really hard to plod along.
So we’ll have a nostalgic sausage sarnie,
And reflect on the unexpected relevance of a song.

It seems so underwhelming.
How can sausages and songs compare?
Because we’re remembering the things that made you happy,
When everything else feels so unfair.
